Mara Hruby - Stereolab (Lose Myself)

Mara Hruby, ladies and gentlemen and... aliens. If you are out there reading this, hello big headed brained individuals!

She's part of Jesse Boykin's posse, and her music is just pure expression. It's weird how simple lyrics and soft musicals, with a nice artistic video (directed by The Boykins himself) works when done properly. Well... I like it. And, if you're a music geek like me, you will die over the little harmonies and ad libs. Done to perfection.

Double OhemGee...

Jeffery Bale is a mastermind. His gardens are a depiction of his artistic skills and a medium through which he expresses his creative flair; inspired by all kinds of architecture and art and generally just life.

I want one of these gardens. So perfect for reclusion, and I guess, when you actually want people to intrude on your piece of paradise...

I doubt I would ever let anyone in my garden/ zen place if it looked like any of those...

Seriously in awe...

All pictures stolen off his blog... go check it out! (click his name)

Coffee smells...

It's currently 5.28am in the morning. I am pumped with excess amounts of caffeine, as I will be till Thursday. I am not planning on sleeping till 12am Thursday morning, because I have an exam I do not really know a lot for. They tell me insomnia is definitely one of those things on the 'things you have to do whilst at university' list.

So I will be consuming a lot of coffee, wayy more than I already do and listening to Amel Larrieux's playlist on repeat. I'm planning on slowly weaning myself off of that drug called caffeine after exams. But... for now, I think I shall continue. Because my previous exam, which I studied quite hard for, was a big fat shambles.

I'm all cried out, so I figured I might as well just get back into the swing of things and get back on the optimism bandwagon. There's no use crying over spilt milk, right?

WRONG. It does you a whole world of good to indulge in short bouts of self - pity. I don't know why, but I'm sure it does. Not unless you're Iron Man or whoever.

I was bored of revision, so I decided to take a picture using my very crappy Blackberry camera of this old guy I drew from a magazine cutting a few years back. I realllly enjoy drawing, but don't do it very often, 'cos I usually want it to be perfect but end up getting certain facial features very wrong (I've still got an unfinished drawing of Audrey somewhere. Stopped it 'cos I could not, for the life of me, get her lips right. It still irks me to this day).

Oh yeah. I'm obsessing over this song at the minute also. Amel Larrieux is too cool and too pretty... And I'm a sucker for soppy, expressive love songs. She makes me yearn for a forehead kiss LOL.

Plus, I love her ensemble. STILL looking for a pair of dungarees. Anyone able to be of any help?

Off to do more brain scarring/damage!

Bisous!

All I know is I came on here to gush about an artist I like...

Sorry, but at times like these, especially seeing as i've been at work all day (wee..lll, since midday really, but who cares), i'm not really in that state of mind to conjunct words that express my 'ability' to string words together in a creative... ahem... manner as to talk about this particular artist. Instead, I have opted for the normal, brisk approach; to simply say it as it is.

So. The artist in focus is my main man, Basquiat. Not that I know knew him or anything, for such a personal and colloquial introduction on my part, but I guess therein lies the beauty of art: The realisation that a person can create an avenue of mixed feelings, thoughts and persuade you to share in the world they have created, thereby  making you feel okay with addressing esteemed artists and the like as your "main man". Or maybe I am alone in this. Am I?

 'Catharsis' (1983)

Jean - Michel Basquiat, is main man's name, by the by. I would give you a run down of his life and times, but that is what Wikipedia is for, homies. And Google. So crack on, if you must!

I originally came across his artwork in my secondary school art class, looking for inspiration as to what my final year piece would be. And my teacher, drawing from her observation of my obsession with mixing mediums, directed me towards this mastermind. What looks like scribbles on canvas, or perhaps could be likened to a child's rendition of reality, is what immediately strikes you about his work. (it also pays to note that he draws inspiration from Picasso. Hello, cubism?). Yet, the heavy undertones of politics and society and just life in general as he sees it are evident, but, in a way, almost easy to miss due to excessive overload of information per piece. Almost like a poem or literary piece... or something, that you need to unravel (in many different ways) in order to understand the message being passed across.

'Bird on Money' (1981)

got from here.

'Untitled' (1981) ... I see phallic imagery everywhere...you?

Umm... Awes..ome self portrait there dude. The hair is rather.... fetching.

There is nothing cohesive, no consecutive train of thought about his artwork. Yet, meshed together, the odd combinations produce this quirky infusion of randomness and brings out something so obviously individual. Which makes him a cool cat in my books.

Unfortunately, his heroin addiction got the better of him, and he died at such a young age from an overdose. Aged 27. So did Edie Sedgewick, Warhol's muse. And Basquiat knew Warhol also. Perhaps he was a jinxed fellow. Who knows.

Well... I must leave you be for now!
See you soonish? Maybe?
Yes.
A bien tot.

That...

...Hussein Chalayan skirt from his Fall 2000 collection.

It is back! With legs this time, and more quirk to it.
In the latest Vogue UK edition.
My pictures of it are a bit skittles, so no point showing you!

I shall say no more.
...Just bask in his artistic genius.

Happy Dimanche!

'How do I love thee? Let me count the ways'...

The intricacies of Mucha's art is beyond compare....!

And on that note, shall I take my leave.

This poem has become my favourite since last week. Elizabeth Browning either a) Had a serious crush on someone (The kind that elicits sleepless nights and hyperactive imaginations ...)
or b) Was very much in love/tuned in to the heart of this fellow she was writing about.

I haven't even BEGUN talking about/ ripping this poem to shreds trying to find out EXACTLY what she meant and how possible it is to find such heart gripping, real love...

But yeah. Enough for now. Potato Wedges are summoning... Not McDonald's unfortunately, since the suckers decided to whet my appetite with it and then proceed to DISCONTINUE it. Rubbish.

So.
Asta La Vista.

even though I still cant figure out how to change the damned template thingie. Don't worry, i'll get there soon enough!

now, to business. I've still got money left over from christmas presents (boxing day shopping was eventful; mother forced me to finally, after two years, buy more jeans * i've got just 2* ... and even tried to get me to get suits! yes, SUITS. but we forgive her. Jesus forgave us, didn't he! :P

anyways, away from the babbling... now interesting deets/details/information/blahhhhh blahhh blahhh.. (you can tell i just found out i can change the font sizes. good times!!!

  • why does Frida Kahlo insist on exaggerating her eyebrows in her paintings?
don't even begin to get me wrong. I think she's a very talented woman, and she's got a good angle ... you know the whole empowering women and all that. but must a monobrow be included??? LOL. the monkey... :p

Charmed (beginning to end baby) .... and all the rest, you can be assured.

but anyyyyhoos, back to my point. Why do they all have to sleep with each other, before they realise who they're meant to be with?

(Clarrrr-sic case; OTH, Lucas did it with Jake's baby mama , Brooke, Peyton, othergirlhealmostmarried (oh yarr, Lynsey :/) .... I'm sure he did it with more people, i just can't remember! (contrary to what this may look like, i do posses somewhat of a life... )

Nathan did it with Brooke, Peyton, Haley, Hayley's sister..

WHYYYYYY???? i ask you? I think its sickening... this passing around of each other...

* i'm still marrying Chad Michael Murray though, mind* & OTH is still amazing... but... okay no buts!
