Summertime, and the livin' is easy...

... But of course we took pictures! I am pleased to introduce Ope as the latest member of the natural crew!!!! Isn't her haircut just awesome? Trying to get her not to grow the hair at all and just become the next Amber Rose (bar the slutty job).

Erm... yeah. So like I said, I should be doing work. But something about the serotonin released from the sun has got me way too happy to think about things as CRUCIAL as work. Oh goodness.

This post does not warrant a title. It's just fabulous in itself...

... Except... Urm... The video still doesn't do all our fabulousness justice. Oh dearie...

The only explanation for this video is the fact that the sun is out today, thereby making us do/act crazy. Do bear with us!

Northerners in the South// A day in the life...

So it was the best friend's birthday last week. Seeing as we are pharmacy students with workload amounting to... (oh goodness knows, but think big, like, biiiig)

... She was unable to go birthday shopping, which has been our tradition since we were wee teenagers. So we decided to go today, spend money, and just have a jolly time. Except I was just meant to go along and not make any purchases, because a) my birthday has long gone, b) I shouldn't really be buying things because I am learning the concept of frugality and c) well... there is no c, but I couldn't very well stop at b now, could I?

The lipstick stain is faint, but it was her first one ever, so we're commemorating the occurrence!

Anyhowzzz, we both got cameras from the parents as birthday presents (they got us the same cameras, incidentally... LOL. Even our parents have decided to continue with the cloning...), and have proceeded to have fun with them ever since.I'm rather camera happy as this is my first camera EVER, so i'm just a lowly amateur. Do bear with me.

But ohhh we had fun. and alas, I could not stop myself from making two cheeky purchases. Life, oh life.
Happy Friday!

Styletroduction: Pinkie Shminkie...

I've been AWOL. I know, do forgive my wretched soul.  Unless, you know, you got tired of my extensive diatribes about, well... nothing and everything altogether and were actually glad about my absence.
Alas, I have returned! Way too much work going on; you know all that pharmacy beezneez we never talk about? Ye...ahh... Kind of had to be sorted out. So, life pretty much was the cause of my hiatus really.
Not that you asked or anything. Such trivial information is always good to know though... Just in case of... anything.

Okay! Let us begin, shall we? It's another Styletroduction feature!

Guys, meet Moyo!
A second year nursing student, who is crazy over pink. I seriously do not understand it; this her obsession. Her bedsheets, pillows, posters, everything. Heck, if she could walk around in a pink bubble, she probably would. And the irony of it all is, despite her obsession with all things in the Barbie coloured spectrum, she cannot be described as your typical, Reese Witherspoon in Legally Blonde type girl.

I know, very weird. But she's a zany child, so such juxtapositions are only to be expected right?

The pink shoes just finish it off nicely hunnh? Thought so myself!

What is most fascinating about her 'style' is that she claims not to have one, or to be 'into fashion'. Her exact words. Her wardrobe is mostly high street; simple T-shirt jeans kinda gal, that is, until, you see her clad in an absolute dream of a jumpsuit *wish I had taken a picture of the back! It's sheer... I love sheer clothing!*
Not 'into fashion' at all, I see!

It saddens me that there is this common misconception in our overtly materialistic world that being 'into fashion', or having 'style' automatically equates with spending tonnes of money on purchasing couture attire: toting around in Louis Vuitton, or being swathed in Prada, or having at least ONE pair of Loub's.

*deadpan expression*

Being a renowned cheapskate who buys earrings and clothes for 50p, I think this ideology is absolutely ludicrous, and, being a fierce advocate for individuality, I say wear what reflects who you are as a person. Even if it's a bin bag. Hey, Helena Bonham Carter wore two different shoes to the Oscars. I say do you, and screw the world!

Styletroduction... Babydolls//Best Friends...

I've tried, to no avail, to steal this candy necklace from her. One day.... *muffled laughter*

Another 'Styletroduction' feature!
Meet the bestfriend/sister from another mother Dotun!
She also masquerades as my other brain, and is the best shopping partner one could have. Remember my post about impulse buying? Yeerrp. She's the best one to go with for spontaneous shopping!

A second year Pharmacy student (our lives have pretty much been interchangeable since high school... wherever Dot is, Seyi is also). We make an amazing tag team, except i'm SURE she's stalking me, seeing as we go to the same university, live in the same house, AND study the same course.

But then again, you all are witnesses to how 'cool' I am. Not surprising that I have stalkers right?

Her style is very cutesy, babydoll - esque which is truly befitting for her personality altogether. Her wardrobe is a compilation of high street, unknown shops, boutiques and charity shops with a smidgen of vintage thrown in. She's not a vintage kid, neither is she a hipster, or a gypsy, or a posh totty. But she has elements of all these things in her style, which I find fascinating, because she doesn't limit her style to one category. I love the simplicity of her style and how she doesn't dress to be 'trendy' or 'fashionable'; for her, comfort is a necessity.

And she is workin' the straw hat and the candy beads!

Toodles and Cup Noodles!

Styletroduction... The Panache Files...

Don't you just love the Poetic Justice braids?

Hi guyyysss! The hiatus from blogsville was not intentional, but was probably my subconscious trying to wean me off my obsession with cyberspace...

I've cut myself off I start off on another one of my rants. I shall just go on to introduce one of the coolest people I have been privileged to meet during my university experience. She's of that rare, exquisite breed of weird that only usually exists in my head, you know, because I'm cool and whatnot.

Guys meet Yemisi!

A second year Law student who also has a fierce dancing talent, and, as you can see, also has an amazing sense of style. Her wardrobe is an eclectic mix of vintage, high street, and just whatever in general... What is amazing about her style is how effortless it is. LOVE!

So, here it is, the first of these 'feature' thingiesssss, I guess. I'm getting courageous with telling the world about this little ole bloggie of mine.

Oh... And in all acts of randomness, as well as staying true to my dream of wanting to become a flapper/burlesque dancer, I bring to you this throwback jammer of a video that kick started my obsession with wanting to be born anytime between the 20s and 50s.

Odabo (Goodbye in Yoruba, that is)

Mid- April Sunshine// Revision what?...

Okay. Funny enough, this time, my absence resulted in my getting a fair bit of work done! Despite how slooooooowly I am getting into the swing of things, I am glad that I am finally beginning to get some work done. Procrastination is not something that is advisable at this time.

However, I had to make time to blog right? I can't stay away for too long...

Unfortunately, it seems the beautiful weather we have been experiencing for awhile now has decided to disappear and throw us back into a normal, British springy April.

Not that I'm complaining though. The weather was so amazingly beautiful during the Easter, and I made sure to make the most of it. YES, my legs were out most of the holiday (Still are now, actually).

Yeah. SO. Easter Holidays! My aunty turned 50, and in true Nigerian fashion, what else to do other than have a crazy massive celebration? So party hard we did. It was fun, amazing, *insert other adjectives to exclaim how much fun I had*. Fun, amazing, because it made me realise how I've begun to forget that we are all growing up, and our lives are going in such different directions. Growing up in the rural, countryside parts of England where, urmm... Seeing people that looked exactly like you (You know wha'a mean?) was not a daily occurrence, meant we were thick as thieves growing up. Perhaps originally, our friendship arose due to our shared common ground: sharing the same experiences, i.e living with Nigerian parents and the like. Now however, I can't imagine not having these girls in my life.  But now, being in various universities all over England means we don't get to see each other as often as we would like to. Thus making moments like these, ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS.

Ope workin' her Ankara harems...

My kid sister Chioma... Seems like everyone was in Nigerian 'trads' but me... :(  I LOVED HER DRESS. Simple. Such good finishing...

A great deal of baby oil went into the glossiness of our legs...

Dotun in the fulllll works: Gele and Ankara

Lola doin' her thanggg!

Why do I always look so dorky in photos?

Anyways; Details of ze clothing:
Dress: Vintage - 8quids... did I hear you say bargain? UH HUH!
Shoes: Charity Shop - 4quids :)
Clutch: Charity Shop : 50p... I kid you not! Still reeling from it myself
Earrings: Topshop

Okay, I must leave now. I have tonnes of work to do...
I haven't forgotten about the feature! Coming soon!

Love and chocolate syrup,
me.

ohmygiddyauntTrisha...

...Who doesn't exist, mind.

I have no aunt called Trisha. Hello, Nigerian aboard! Normal, indefinable names do not exist in our genetic makeup.

None of my aunts can be described as 'giddy' also. No, this title was merely an over-the - top exclamation at the weird turn of events this past week.

Hence the giddy aunts.

*Isn't this beautiful? I don't blog in forever, and hey, twice in one night? Ah-may-zingggg!*

Sorry again for the ranting...

You know the weird event/happenings aforementioned? Well. Yes.

...It seems I have a twin. Yes. Twin.
She is Nigerian (Like me)

Black (Like me...duh)

Has a love for the absolutely random things in life...

Has an unhealthy love for Literature... AND COFFEE (...l..ike me)

Is trying to STEAL MY man Ian Somerhalder

*Insert all the other lovely things she and I have in common*. I found her (stalked, actually) via my friends twitter page and then proceeded to read her blog. Then recognised the uncanny similarities. Needless to say, I followed her immediately. I had to keep tabs on this twin of mine, with her consent or not. Sue me. I like seeing myself in others. Makes me feel less... abnormal, I guess... If that's what you call people of my caliber...

Or shall I say OUR caliber! *claps hands in excitement*

Anyhoos... Out of boredom/nothing else to do, I continued with the stalking (actually, she stalked me right back, added me on twitter (my new best friend, Twitter is), and proceeded to continously weird me out with her 'echoing my mind' tweets.... Scary stuff...) her blog, and just now, came across this poem she's written...

It's called 'Walking Contradiction'.

Here goes...

This is how I feel sometimes.

I feel uncomfortable in my own skin. Not wanting to go far one way or the other, not wanting to take a risk, not wanting to offend other people.

If I'm comfortable in my own skin, I wouldn't care so much.

I fluctuate. I fluctuate between liking myself, embracing who I am, to, feeling awkward, embarassed.

I'm confident.

I have self-esteem issues.

I'm loud, I'm quiet.

I secretly, probably am a little bit of an attention-whore..

And yet, when I get it, I feel uncomfortable. I don't like it, I don't feel I should get too much.

Yet when I'm in my zone, playing my guitar, singing, writing..I am an extrovert.

I'm a different person, confident, and bold, unafraid.

I basically am a walking contradiction.

My friends deserve an award or something for actually understanding me.

I know. It's amazing. Except now we're back to that weird twin thing again. This is my bloody life she's encapsulated in writing. THIS IS ME. I am a frickin' walking contradiction, to a T.

Does God make people in twos?
WHAT IS THIS? *ponders*
And this is exactly how I feel at this precise moment. In fact, I think i'm wallowing right now, not being bothered to talk about anything substantial, being blah and unreadable... For reasons only my journal knows... But yeah.

Seems I am a walking contradiction... Even at my most normal times...

Read her blog. She is a sense talker who appreciates the flimsy things in life. I am already in LOVE. You should be too, once you read her 'neurotic chirpings' as she's nicely put it...
Here... Read, and fall in love/like/whatever it is you fall into...

Thanks for listening!

A little somethin' for the something readers...

I shall get into today's post ever so swiftly, because, unlike previous posts, this topic has festered in my mind since my friends have been badgering me about it. So here goes...

Sidebar: HOWEVER, do expect little random facts/whatever-runs-through-my-mind at that precise moment chit-chat...Blame my DNA for being kooky...SORRY!

...That wasn't "swift" at all, was it? *shakes head*

Well, Buenos tardes blogville, hope all is well. I'm sure you're fine.

This is truely 'somethin', me writing 'something'  (loool...*geek face*) as opposed to any randomness that comes to mind at the precise moment that a computer is in close vicinity.

My sister-friends are the main cause of this something i'm attempting to write, since one of them constantly reminds me that this blog makes no sense, to which I refer her to the NAME of the blog. Its not called 'quirkyANYTHING' for no reason... and then she tells me how random and unbelievably abnormal I am. *Watch me get you when uni begins for calling me abnormal*

So, to dispel any notions of my 'supposed' abnormality, i've decided to write something substantial. And the only thing I can think to write about is the essence and importance of friendship and friendliness...

I love people. I'm one of those in-your-face-wanting-to-make-you-feel-at-ease-by-talking-too-much persons. And the talking too much is mostly in apprehension of the 'awkward silence' moment. Sorry if you ever have to/have witnessed such erratic behaviour on my part. Its the DNA thing again *confused face*. Some people find that unnecessary and well, downright annoying, and the others, wellllll....those are my beautiful friends whom I love and cherish!

Obviously, they're all not normal. Even though they like to claim 'normality'. EVEN, the friend-who-shall-not-be-named who calls me weird at every chance she gets *makes face at her*. Actually make that all of you who call me weird, weirdos!

...SO friends. What makes them so essential in our lives? Why is it that, we search all our lives for those perfect fit of people to understand us and accept us, warts and all?

*Sidebar: I've just downloaded the new Safari browser. And it looks hella hella hot! Makes me think my cheap-ass laptop is a nice silver MacBook *smiles*  #dontjudgeme

... Even when they piss you off sooooo much you wonder why you're friends with them in the first place, or they take your things and never return them, or they put words in your mouth, or *insert numerous complaints*.... We still long for their companionship and advice and all the other nice things they do. Lets face it. We need these slightly odd people in our lives, despite it all. Granted, we have families who love us and want the best for us and love us and still annoy the heck out of us, but they HAVE to love us. Which is the ultimate distinguishing factor between friends and family. The magical aspect of their loving us is their not having to love us; yet they do. Warts and all. If your friends are anything like mine, that is! *Shout out to all my lovers!*

So... a few reasons why I can't be a lone ranger /love my friendies...

  • These people love me even when I don't love myself...undoubtedly 'cliche', but so very true...
  • They overlook the annoying/stupid/bad things in me and embrace the good parts.
  • They DO NOT judge me... But encourage me to be the better version of myself.
  • They dream my dream along with me...And encourage my dream to become a reality
  • They are REAL. No lies, no fakery, no additional nonsense. Just normal, imperfect people who make the time for normal *ahem* imperfect me without expecting perfection.
  • They are all individually different, but similarly A.M.A.Z.I.N.G in their own kooky ways.
  • They buy me nice GIFTs! *essential* lol.
  • Common goal: they all build me up and encourage my faith in God...
  • They expect that when they come round, food ensues....*But all that changes next year, unfortunately..Ahem Bambi, no leaving your pots in my house as an incentive*
  • ...They are aware  that I expect immense gratitude/feet kisses for making them seem like the world's best friends in cyber world! *Bart Simpson laugh*

...I'm guessing that was enough 'somethings' for awhile? Yeah. Methinks so, definitely.

So. Without further ado, I must take my leave.

Gracias, toodles, peace and spaghetti hoops!

xoxo

The friendies...

InCASE you were wondering...

... none of these photos are mine, s'il vous plait. Unless you happen to see pictures of yours truly or whatever (which I beg you to ask for permission before you acquire), I own no claims whatsoever to the images.

Many thanks,
She.
