Blue Suede Shoes...

I don't have anything to blog about, so I figured I may as well show you my most recent purchase (as well as my mother's bag I wish she would let me steal). Yeah. Cobalt blue fringed desert boots. Why not? Sticking to the status quo is just not appealing all the time. Indeed it is not.

Adios!

Sunday Kind of Love...

Etta James is exceptional. And I was listening to this song whilst battling one of my many courseworks, and, don't you know, it happens to also be a Sunday today. Isn't that just dandy? I seem to think it is!

Please do enjoy this beauty of a musical procession! Her voice, ohhhh may her voice live on!

Happy Sunday!

Chillin' out maxxin'...Saturday jazzin'

It's no news that I love my jazz like no other. I remember Saturday mornings when I was younger. I lived in Nigeria back then, and the weekends were (severe) cleaning days. Wiping windows, dusting carpets, cleaning furniture, or anything my mother saw fit to include as our chores. On the television, or the stereo set, would be the soft, easy processions of jazz. My father is a jazz connoisseur you see - so there were records upon records, upon records in the house growing up. But at that age, such music did not appeal to me, I guess.
My obsession with nostalgia, I guess you could say, was what ignited my love for jazz and the blues. The music carries this oldness with it; a serene feeling of... calm. I could listen to this all day and forget there was work to go to, or people to see, or just generally life to witness.

Yes. My love for the blues runs that deep. It's alright to call me weird, my siblings do that already.

Hello there...

You like the greeting? Please tell me you do. Saw it whilst meandering through le tumblr (which I have yet to grow weary of, SURPRISINGLY), and thought you blogger(ettes) would appreciate a bit of German wit this beautiful Tuesday.

Not that the weather is anything to write home about, but... You get my drift? No? Okay...

I realised, whilst looking through zees blog, that I haven't gushed about my Christmas presents which I mentioned in my wishlist. Since I told you Jesus loved me, and that I hoped to get some of the things on my list, I figured it only appropriate to come back and brag show you my belongings!

Yep. You are seeing this correctly. I did fulfil my dreams of acquiring a vintage camera. It's a Praktica, not a PENTAX, but after extensive research, I realised that this German (haha) competitor is also a good 'un. Bought it, only to find the battery cell corroded, and... yeah... haven't used it yet. Welp.  But I will soon, because I have found a place to get these elusive batteries! Strike, score, WIIIIIN!

More so, in other non - related news, I am also traipsing around the entire universe looking like...

... Zees at the minute. Braided/twisted up, in a random turn of events. Happened on Sunday. I kind of like it. Makes me look like one of those non-sulfate-non-anything-that's-not-natural-product-junkie naturalistas (I am yet to part with my sulfates...Meh... YOLO)

Oh, and since this post is tres random, this is what my ears are mclovin' at the minute also...

She's all sorts of amazing. Good Lord. Particularly love the acoustic sesh-vibes of the second song. Beaut!

Okay, so... I think that is all for now. Goodbyesss!

Humans and Mortality...// RIP Whitney Houston

Currently jamming to these tunes whilst doing some uni work catching up with the latest edition of Vogue. I know I know, I'm off to study and become famous, you don't worry.

I still cannot get my head around the fact that Whitney Houston is dead; in my mind, celebrities are immortal. Or at least that was what I thought. It grieves me to know that such a phenomenal, well rounded talent is lost to the world. But as usual, her art succeeds in leaving us with a smidgen of who she was and what she stood for whilst she was on this here earth.

<Sidetrack>, her outfits gave me so much life. Next to the Banks' wardrobe, Whit's clothes from The Bodyguard have plagued many of my dreams till this day. And that wispy bob!!!!

... Finally, my inclusion of Sade's 'Your Love is King' is in no way related to the love holiday. No ma'am.

...Unless my psyche is playing games with me.

Aloha!

The perfect song for a winter's night, summer afternoon, autumn midday. Basically, this right here is just a perfect song. C'est fini.

APOLOGIES on the lack of posts! Going through life, university work, and... well... life really. Will try to post as often as I can!

Love and Badu's turbans,

Dreadheads// Bukola Elemide aka Asa...

Miss Bukola Elemide throws it down ALWAYS. And right now, I am jizzing over her style altogether; music, dress, presentation, everything. I like when a stylist can incorporate a person's personality into their outfits... The icing on the cake of Visual presentation...

... Plus, I loveeee the fact that she's singing barefoot. Something about that resonates with me lol. And the ankle bracelets are toooooooo pretty!

... And I didn't forget about the artistry of the song either. LOVE it.

Solo-dicted...

The title says it all. I am a self diagnosed, self confessed Solange Knowles fan. Been begging her on Twitter to gift me with her lovely Prada sunglasses that I so very dearly covet.  Alas, no retweets or replies. For this, my heart is saddened. OH WELLZT.

Still love her though...

Remember this? She wrote it!!!!! The woman is a genius!

Happy Friday!

SMILE! It's the greatest elixir of life!

Pleasantries all humans wide and far! It is the first day in the month of November, and I am bursting at the seams with excitement, as Christmas keeps inching closer and closer! Oh la la!

More so, I just thought to inform blogsphere and its lovely inhabitants that I have found smiling to be the greatest antidote to life's inevitable occurrences that make us unhappy, worrisome, and just generally laden with... life.

But SMILE! It's only for awhile! Combat unhappiness by revealing your pearly whites! It makes all the difference, trust me!

"You look so much better when you smile, so smile"

Don't believe me? When next you're in a funk, break out in laughter. Really. Or just smile. Even if there's nothing smile worthy about your funk, do it. Please. And see the outcome!

SMILE!!!

Great Minds// People you should know...

Just listen. I can guarantee you that you will love the simplicity of the beat, the neo- soul vibe very reminiscent of early hip hoppers. Think A Tribe Called Quest, but with British accents. Go Londoners!!!! I love the nostalgic feel of the video, the almost poetic rhymes, and just... Well... Everything in general... Been on repeat for awhile now...

Ahhh, I am excited for more from these boys. Love it!

"We're still livin' "

Toodles!

Santa Claus is coming to town. Like, in FOUR MONTHS!

*shrieks*

I cannot believe summer is almost over, and that Santa and the elves will already be running around frantically in the North Pole getting presents ready, whilst Helga sits contentedly keeping house and home and is just generally revelling in her awesomeness. Okay...

I've done something I never thought I would do;  made a video. Oh dear God. I was meant to sing and get away quickly enough, but alas, it is me in question, is it not?

Yeaaah. I go a bit wrong in some places which you will see, and most definitely laugh at my blunders, but just do not think me weird and write me off will you?

Thanks...

P.S Blogger's video quality is shambolic. Once I can figure out how to get a Youtube channel up and running properly, I shall change to that...

Oh fashion, where cans't thou lead me?

I am currently undergoing a fash-drought, if I could call it that, at the minute.

I think it is as a result of being thrown into the deep end of corporate Britain; I am working as a pharmacy intern at Boots for the whole summer, which means I am dressed in drab clothing pretty much twenty four seven.

If you know me, (Which, let's be honest, seeing as we're all bezzies over hurr, you undoubtedly do) you will know that wearing black, and black, and... oh, BLACK all day everyday is not something this homo sapien is all too comfortable doing.

But.... Ohhhh welllllzzzt ehh?

The money however, is good for my frivolous spending though. And by frivolous, you KNOW I mean buying things for dirt cheap right? I bought some purple high waisted shorts and a tartan shirt for 50p. Haaaaaaaaa!

LOL.  I shall show you some pictures soon!

Anyways, since I've been put on fash-expulsion by the government THEMSELVES, I shall flood this space with music.

Soooo, here goes my loverrliess!

Sara Bareilles - Love on The Rocks

Enjoy!!!
If you have any fashion obsessions you would like to let a sistuh in on, do drop by!!

I am in need!

Sarah Vaughan - Somewhere over the rainbow
I love me some o' this woman's voice. Arrrgh!

OhemGee...

We all know by now that I have this unhealthy, but very necessary obsession with boys who can 'saaang'.
I'm apparently too particular when it comes to describing my ideal man, 'cos one of the prerequisites is that he should be able to wow me (and woo me) with his beautiful with a double 'L' voice.

But we don't live in an ideal world, and yada yada yada. I know.
Oh well.
Here's these two Spanish boys who are actually quintuplets. AND THEY CAN ALL SING!

Ohhh... They're doing a cover to Musiq Soulchild's Just Friends, which is like, one of my favourite songs in like, the whole wide world!

P.S: Does anyone else actually read Youtube comments and laugh at the atrocities that are actually written down?

I have been unable to stop laughing since reading one of them. These boys above uploaded a video of themselves and their other three brothers singing WHO ALL LOOK ALIKE.

A Youtube commenter goes: "Wow. Are you all TWINS"?

I'm really confused at the things that go on in the brains of some humans!

LOL!

Okay, said too much again. I shall exeunt now.
Smooches!

More afros and music...

Espy is back on the blog! I let her be for awhile, but... I couldn't resist when I came across this cover of Lauryn Hill's Tell Him, sung by her whilst she strums these simple chords on her bass guitar.

Oh... And her hair is magnificent also.

Love it!

I can never tire of good ole Miss Jill. I remember the first time I heard this song. Must have been about sixteen at the time; that age where everything 50cent produces is what graces your mp3 player (I was indeed a great 50cent fan. *shivers* Why I bought into the whole mainstream hip hop thing continues to baffle my existence). The coupling of the serenity of the video and the ease at which the melody is combined with her voice is beautiful. And need I comment on the lyrics?

Yeahhh, I am soppy like that. I just pretend that I'm of the hardcore breed. But I'm sure that you are all not fooled by my façade right?

Plus, upon watching this video again, I realise that my 'fro has gotten some sort of miracle gro' and is about as long as hers!!!! *does victory dance*

Toodlesssss!!!

"You'll be my man, and I will be yo' woman everyday"...

Asa yet again, performing in March in France at the Victoire De La Musique concert, rocking a yellow Kemkemstudio blazer. (Yurrp... Another Nigerian designer!)

Ahhhh! I love the ensemble. Her locs to her pillbox hat to her... Damn. I just love everything. She's making me want to loc my hair.

...Given that my father will get the scissors out immediately I attempt to become a pseudo - Rasta, I think yarn braids will be an appropriate compromise... Right?

I am such a good daughter. Even though I knowww my father will have numerous things to say about my yarn braids lol.

Happy Sunday lovers!

Hugs and marshmallow kisses!

Hey Y'all, Hey Y'all...

... What i'm currently dougie-ing to. Not that I can actually DO the dougie, but you can't hate a Negro's hustle right?

I loooooove me some of my man Musiq.

I  also realise that this blog is becoming very music oriented. Sorry! :)

Shmoodle Toodle!

Cyber boyfriends and Crazy Talent....

I have a HUGE crush on this guy. Oh em flipping gee.

I want to marry his singing talent. Yeaaah, like every other girl out there, I'm a sucker for a guy with a voice. It can't be helped. I have this huuuuuge fantasy wedding where my husband will sing for me and...

... Yeahhh... The rest is history lol... But. Yeah. Homeboy can saaaaang!

Coffee smells...

It's currently 5.28am in the morning. I am pumped with excess amounts of caffeine, as I will be till Thursday. I am not planning on sleeping till 12am Thursday morning, because I have an exam I do not really know a lot for. They tell me insomnia is definitely one of those things on the 'things you have to do whilst at university' list.

So I will be consuming a lot of coffee, wayy more than I already do and listening to Amel Larrieux's playlist on repeat. I'm planning on slowly weaning myself off of that drug called caffeine after exams. But... for now, I think I shall continue. Because my previous exam, which I studied quite hard for, was a big fat shambles.

I'm all cried out, so I figured I might as well just get back into the swing of things and get back on the optimism bandwagon. There's no use crying over spilt milk, right?

WRONG. It does you a whole world of good to indulge in short bouts of self - pity. I don't know why, but I'm sure it does. Not unless you're Iron Man or whoever.

I was bored of revision, so I decided to take a picture using my very crappy Blackberry camera of this old guy I drew from a magazine cutting a few years back. I realllly enjoy drawing, but don't do it very often, 'cos I usually want it to be perfect but end up getting certain facial features very wrong (I've still got an unfinished drawing of Audrey somewhere. Stopped it 'cos I could not, for the life of me, get her lips right. It still irks me to this day).

Oh yeah. I'm obsessing over this song at the minute also. Amel Larrieux is too cool and too pretty... And I'm a sucker for soppy, expressive love songs. She makes me yearn for a forehead kiss LOL.

Plus, I love her ensemble. STILL looking for a pair of dungarees. Anyone able to be of any help?

Off to do more brain scarring/damage!

Bisous!

The friendies...

InCASE you were wondering...

... none of these photos are mine, s'il vous plait. Unless you happen to see pictures of yours truly or whatever (which I beg you to ask for permission before you acquire), I own no claims whatsoever to the images.

Many thanks,
She.
